The Short Answer

When Wood Makes Sense

Pressure treated wood is the lowest cost way to get a quality deck, about $38 per square foot built as a planning number. Cedar adds natural beauty and a warm color.

We build wood decks on helical piers with the same framing standards we use for composite, so you can switch to composite boards later on a solid frame.

Compare

Pressure Treated vs Cedar

01

Pressure Treated

Budget friendly, strong, and easy to stain any color.

02

Cedar

Naturally beautiful and rot resistant, with a premium look.

03

Upkeep

Both need stain or sealer every two to three years.

04

Upgrade Path

A solid frame can take composite boards later.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a pressure treated deck last?

Typically 15 to 20 years in Ohio with regular upkeep.

Is cedar better than pressure treated?

Cedar looks better and resists rot naturally but costs more and is softer.

How soon can I stain a new pressure treated deck?

Usually after the wood dries, often a few weeks to a few months. We give guidance for your boards.

Can I put composite on my wood deck later?

Yes, if the frame is sound and joists are spaced for composite.

Do you still build wood decks?

Yes, and they get the same helical pier foundations and care.
