A Deck Built Right Over the Driveway
There was no yard to build in, so we built over the driveway. This freestanding Deckorators Voyage deck spans the drive on four posts and engineered beams, with KeyLink cable rail up top and a dry, finished ceiling so the cars below stay out of the rain.

No yard, but plenty of driveway
This Kent home sits on a tight lot, and the only open space out back was the driveway. The owners wanted a real deck off the upper level without giving up their parking.
The answer was a freestanding deck that carries its own load, spans the driveway on four posts, and stays dry underneath, so the space below still works as a covered spot for the cars.

How we built over a driveway
A deck that spans a driveway has to be engineered from the footers up, so this one started with the structure.
What it is made of
A modern palette with mineral based decking that stands up to sun and weather.

Deckorators Voyage Costa
Deckorators Voyage is a mineral based composite that resists moisture and fading. Costa is a soft, warm gray, framed here with Dark Slate and Khaya.

KeyLink Cable Rail
KeyLink American Series aluminum posts and top rail with horizontal stainless cable in black. Compare railing

Dry Space Below
An EPDM membrane plus an OtterTech ceiling with integrated gutters keeps the driveway dry. More on under deck protection

Dark Slate Wraps
Every post and beam is wrapped in Dark Slate fascia, so the structure reads clean and modern from the street.

Questions we hear a lot
Can you build a deck over a driveway?
Yes, with the right engineering. This one is freestanding on deep footers, 8×8 posts, and large beams sized for the span.
Will the driveway stay dry?
Yes. A waterproof membrane and an OtterTech ceiling with gutters carry the water away from the space below.
What is a double border?
Two border boards in different colors around the edge. Here it is Dark Slate outside and Khaya inside, framing the Costa field.
