For this young family, a simple patio or small deck wouldn’t meet their needs. With a toddler and a baby on the way, they wanted an outdoor living space that could evolve with their growing family—serving as both a relaxing retreat and a place for gatherings.

From the beginning, this project was about more than just building a deck—it was about creating a foundation for lasting family memories.

The Homeowner’s Vision

When this family purchased their home in Richfield, they planned ahead. They needed a versatile outdoor space where their children could play safely, family celebrations could be hosted, and quiet evenings could be enjoyed while watching the sunset over the pond.

By the time construction was complete, their daughter had arrived. Now, with two young children, they enjoy a beautiful, two-story deck that has become an integral part of their daily life—whether it’s playtime beneath the deck, dinners under the covered roof, or morning coffee while the kids explore.

Design Tailored to Capture the View

We developed a precise 3D design to visualize the deck from every angle. The plan featured a 38′ x 12′ Trex Lineage composite deck with a 19′ x 12′ covered area that perfectly frames the pond view. An A-frame cathedral roof adds height and openness, while an OtterTech under-deck system creates a dry, usable lower level—doubling the outdoor living space for year-round enjoyment.

• Custom Lighting Package – Includes post cap, stair riser, and recessed deck lights for enhanced safety and ambiance.

Expert Construction for a Neighborhood Highlight

The build started with helical pier installation, securing the foundation well below the frost line to prevent movement. We framed the structure using No. 1 pressure-treated lumber, ensuring precise alignment and durability for the composite decking.

Trex Lineage boards were installed with hidden fasteners for a clean, seamless look, finished with a picture frame border. Railings and custom lighting were added, and the covered roof was built to complement the home’s architecture, featuring matching shingles, vinyl soffit ceiling, and white Azek trim-wrapped posts.

The OtterTech under-deck system and gravel base transformed the lower level into a functional, low-maintenance space.
