Some homeowners want a deck that blends quietly into the background. Adrienne and Patrick wanted something different — a deck that would stand out for its craftsmanship and style, while still feeling like it naturally belonged in their wooded Akron property.
Before DreamDecks arrived, their old wood deck was showing its age. The boards were weathered, the railings were outdated, and the overall layout didn’t make the most of the space or the view. They wanted a complete redesign — something that would fix the functional issues, upgrade the materials, and reflect their style without clashing with their natural surroundings. In one of Richfield, Ohio’s newest neighborhoods, a prime lot sat waiting for something special. The backyard faced a beautiful community pond, offering a view you just don’t waste. When Frank and his family moved in, they knew a simple patio or small deck wouldn’t cut it. They wanted an outdoor space worthy of that view — something functional, beautiful, and built to last.
A Personal Consultation to Get It Right
From the start, this wasn’t a one-size-fits-all project. We scheduled an on-site consultation, bringing samples of Deckorators Voyage mineral composite decking so Adrienne and Patrick could see and feel the difference. We walked the space together, laid out pattern options, and discussed railing colors. They chose a custom repeating 7”/3”/5”/3” board pattern that would give the deck a unique signature look.
The final selection: Deckorators Voyage in Sedona for its warm, earthy tones that perfectly tied into the home’s exterior and surrounding trees. For the railings, they went with Trex Signature aluminum in bronze — sleek, durable, and open enough to enjoy the wooded view.
What They Needed – and What They Got
A larger, more functional deck – We built an 856-square-foot composite deck with a fresh layout and wider, safer stairs.
Better durability – The frame was built from No. 1 pressure-treated lumber set on helical piers for stability that won’t shift with Ohio’s freeze-thaw cycles.
A dry, low-maintenance base – Gravel and weed-block fabric beneath the deck keep the area clean and usable.
Lighting for both beauty and safety – 19 post cap lights and stair riser lights create an inviting glow at night while making every step safe.
Matching balcony resurfacing – We stripped and rebuilt the 8’ x 10’ balcony off the primary bedroom with the same composite decking, railing, and border details so the entire outdoor space feels cohesive.

The Build Process
1. Careful Demolition & Site Prep We removed the aging wood deck and disposed of all debris. The ground was cleared, leveled, and prepared for the new foundation, with excavation work to improve water drainage and protect the new structure for the long term.
2. Foundation for the Future Helical piers were installed instead of traditional concrete footers — a premium choice that offers superior stability and eliminates the risk of shifting from seasonal freeze-thaw cycles.
3. Engineered Framing The frame was built with No. 1 pressure-treated lumber and reinforced for the weight and performance of composite decking. Joist protection butyl tape was applied to extend the life of the substructure by preventing water intrusion.
4. Precision Decking Installation Every Deckorators Voyage board was measured, cut, and installed according to the custom 7”/3”/5”/3” pattern the homeowners chose. Hidden fasteners created a smooth, clean finish, and a picture-frame border gave the deck a tailored edge.
5. Matching Balcony Upgrade The upstairs balcony was stripped down to the frame, restructured, and resurfaced with the same composite decking and bronze Trex Signature railing for a unified look from every angle.
6. Lighting & Finishing Touches Low-voltage Trex LED lighting was added to post caps and stair risers, creating a warm evening glow while improving safety. Fascia trim was installed to wrap support posts and beams for a polished finish.
The DreamDecks Difference
This wasn’t just about building a bigger deck — it was about designing a space that feels intentional. By personally working with Adrienne and Patrick to select colors, patterns, and details, we ensured their deck wouldn’t look like anyone else’s in the neighborhood. Every board was cut and placed according to the approved pattern, every seam was planned, and every light was positioned to enhance both function and style.
The Finished Space
Today, the Yellow Creek Road deck is an inviting, year-round retreat. In the fall, the bronze railings and Sedona decking glow against the backdrop of changing leaves. At night, the lighting gives the entire structure a warm, resort-like feel. From the main deck to the balcony, it’s a unified, low-maintenance outdoor living space built to be enjoyed for decades.

Do I need a permit, or do you handle that?
We take care of all the permits and inspections so you don’t have to. We work with your local city officials to ensure everything is up to code.
